MINN_LAB,
Weather Report

MINN_LAB’s installation, Weather Report, will be the first in a series of evolving iterations, engaging the public’s perception of climate change. This summer’s installation seeks to illustrate a varying density of qualitative as well as quantitative data, generated during the night by the active involvement and response of the public participant as well as through simple weather measurements using classical equipment. A collection of illuminated and colored helium inflatables, each one representing the entry of one data point and the color noting a degree of intensity, will accumulate over the night, sculpturally restrained by an ever growing net-like armature suspended in the air above the long pathway at the foot of the river bank, below the river road. The density of data seeks to represent a range of public perception and opinion around the notion of climate change and our tangible role in it as a society, both individually and collectively. The long term goal of this ongoing project is to catalog the data, moving towards digital and mobile representations of it, thereby freeing it up to manifest at other venues and in other communities. The intent is to develop a continually evolving human-driven perception report.

MINN_LAB is a design collective composed of architects, landscape architects, computer scientists and educators. We seek to engage and facilitate cross disciplinary dialogue within the design community, manifesting in the creation and curation of site-based installations that foster awareness and critical inquiry into the nature of our cities and the communities we live in.
