At 9:00 pm in the Mill City festival zone, listen for the a poetic call to prayer (Adhan) from the Muslim tradition. When you hear it, the sun has set and Northern Spark has begun. The Adhan is heard in many Muslim countries 5 times a day and is time to stop and pray. During Rahmadan the Adhan at sunset signals the end of the daily fast, and the beginning of the community meal, or Iftar. Look for the break-fast dates which will be distributed around the Mill City festival site after the Adhan. Recited by Maythum Mehdi.
Transliteration and Translation of the call to prayer:
Allahu Akbar
‘God is Great(est)’ (x4)
Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah
‘I witness that there is no god but GOD’ (x2)
Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah
‘I witness that Muhammad is the messenger of GOD’ (x2)
Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah
‘Hasten for prayers’ (x2)
Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah
‘Hasten to success’ (x2)
Allahu Akbar
‘God is Great(est)’ (x2)
La ilaha illa Allah
‘There is no God but GOD’ (x2)
